Crayola Colors for Spring…

The weather has been so drab for so long that I’ve been desperate to break out my Crayola colors, hence a brief sojourn to sunny Tampa for this shoot. Making this specific color palette work for you is possible. All you need to pay attention to when mixing reds, pinks, and greens is choosing appropriate, seasonal pieces. These wide legged trousers  in shocking pink and patterned blouse (both from Alice + Olivia) celebrate the change in seasons. What makes this work so well are the breezy materials that have the ability to move. Sweaters, wool pants, turtlenecks, and pencil skirts can all be one-note when it comes to depth and movement. Find some pieces in a silk blend, a linen blend, or even cotton. These kinds of garments move with the breeze and are visibly lighter in weight….automatically portraying the seasonally appropriate message that spring has sprung!

Normally I do like quite a bit of contrast in my outfits, but the green-on-pink-on-black speaks enough volumes in that regard. The red JW Anderson handbag adds another level of color to this outfit while the black leather jacket dials down the saturated tones and keeps this outfit grounded.  Balance is everything.

A bit nervous to dive into something so bold? Make this kind of look work for you by playing around with different colors. A plum pant with this top may speak to your comfort zone a bit more, but still stands out from the rolling waves of black and navy on your daily commute. Trade out the bright red bag with your favorite neutral tote, and you’re ready for the office. Want to take more risks? Go for statement earrings like I did above, or layer on a jacket with more textural elements in place of a simple, sleek leather option. The finishing touch? A playful neutral stiletto. Now, go forth with confidence and style your brights and bolds for spring!
