Still basking in the glory that is New York Fashion Week, I’m filled to the brim with outfit inspiration and already looking forward to trying these trends out for myself. Every year, Fashion Week is sprinkled with a few key trends that hit nearly half of the runway shows. This year, designers like Versace, Michael Kors, Fendi, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, and more have all boarded the S.S. Check, utilizing patterns like tartan, gingham, and glen plaid to name a few. I have to admit, there’s something nostalgic about this check trend that is whimsical and retro. And I absolutely can’t get enough.
Whether you immediately think of Cher Horowitz, Rachel Green, or Princess Diana, there’s probably a special place in your heart (and in your classic DVD collection) for the timeless print, too. This time around, I’ve decided to go head-to-toe with the pattern and don a tartan plaid car coat. Layered over a simple high waisted jeans and v-neck tee combo, this captivating coat is definitely the star. But what’s a star without the second lead? Drum roll please, because Best Supporting Role in this outfit goes to my adorable Alice + Olivia white boots. In a stretchy silk/satin blend, these booties are a unique, rule-breaking addition to my post-Labor Day wardrobe. And the white really pops on a brisk fall day.
