One of the best things about traveling is that I get the best of both worlds. On the East Coast, I enjoy city lights, delicious foodie restaurants, quaint seasides and skyscrapers. But as temperatures drop, I’ve found myself spending more and more time in California – most recently, at Laguna Beach. I love the luscious tropical foliage, warm sun, inspiring artist community, and opportunity to wear my summer clothes for as long as possible.
It’s not often in New York that you’ll see tank tops and open-toed sandals come October, which is why I’m making the most of it on the West Coast. The star of this outfit is my micro-pleated silk blend maxi skirt. The hint of shimmer creates whimsical dimensions as I walk through the cobblestone streets, and the subtle leopard incites enough visual interest without being gaudy. With animal print being one of my favorite year round staples, this maxi skirt found a happy home in my wardrobe amongst matching leopard separates and python-inspired accessories. A black bodysuit complements the skirt without overpowering it, and my sky-high velvet platforms make it ready for drinks and dancing.
Because the skirt is made with a simple black band at the waist, I decided to add a bit of my own flair with a wide leather belt. The alligator-effect feels like it was made for this tropical paradise, and the belt itself cinches in my waist at just the right spot. Next on the list of accessories is a beaded crossbody that converts into a clutch, which is handy for day-to-evening activities and stores all of my necessities – including my ruby red lipstick. Gold jewelry and hardware sprinkles the rest of the ensemble as a luxe-feeling finish. So whether I’m shopping my afternoon away in the HIP District or enjoying patio cocktails as the sun sets, I know I’ll be enjoying the last of this Indian Summer in style.
