We’ve sure had our fair share of April showers in NYC this spring. And as the old saying goes, May flowers should be right around the corner. If waiting for daisies to break through the ground is a little too slow-paced for your taste, you can don your own flowers this spring in a myriad of ways! Your favorite brands are getting spring fever too, with florals on every rack and in every window. Miranda Priestly may scoff at the age-old motif, but florals are a timeless staple for good reason. Brands like DVF, Gucci, Erdem, and Alice + Olivia have dozens of floral patterns for you to choose from this spring, as well as a wide range of silhouettes and materials for variety.
I’m a huge believer in having a “Hero” piece each season, and this floral jacket from Alice + Olivia is it. The classic trench coat shape paired with a wide lapel are the perfect silhouette details to carry this graphic print in a modern and sophisticated way. And the inner lining? A delightful surprise every time a slight wind breezes by. The Easter egg color palette allows me to style this coat in a number of ways, choosing to highlight any of the hues. That kind of variety, in my opinion, truly increases the value of a piece and makes me want to wear it more often – styling it differently each time. With a statement piece like this, the rest of the outfit should sing alongside it, not overpower it. That’s why I’ve opted for my classic v-neck for a pop of tomato orange, and simple accessories to complete the look.
A must for every one of my outfits is a memorable bag. So from my adored collection, I’ve pulled a springtime wicker box bag as a neutral accessory. On-trend and big enough to fit my lipstick and sunglasses, it adds just the right textural element that this outfit was begging for. My green platform heels tie back into the jacket’s gorgeous print, and provide a subtle, flirty addition in this H2T ensemble. I’ve refrained from adding too many bits and bobs, as too much jewelry would take away from the Hero piece. After all, a jacket like this speaks for itself!
