THE STATEMENT COAT….
The first and last thing people see when you’re coming or going… so make it worth a double take!
Building your wardrobe is serious business and it’s important to purchase wisely. A statement coat is an essential that can either make or break a look.
So let’s talk coats! Merriam Webster defines a coat as “an outer garment worn on the upper body and varying in length and style according to fashion and use.” Fashionistas often define the coat as the cover of your book. In fact, a good statement coat can easily double as your outfit of the day so it’s a wise investment to make in your seasonal wardrobe.
Here’s some helpful tips when purchasing your statement coats:
-
- Consider the silhouette that works best for your figure. • A-line • Swing • Cropped • Puffy • Belted • Cocoon • Military
- Details count! • Seams • Closures • Buttons • Lining • Fabric
More to consider:
How will you style it? Will it work with pumps, boots, or sneakers? (That’s a trifecta!)
Choose classic colors that never go out of style like black, white, navy, camel or grey.
My latest addition to my coat wardrobe has been this lady-like sheepskin panelled belted coat in Navy. The moment I put this on I feel instantly pulled together. I’ve paired it back with violet heels and a fun leather box bag, which usually becomes a conversation starter. I would just as easily pair this coat over a sweater dress/boots combo or jeans/turtleneck/sporty platform sneaker ootd! I personally prefer navy over black since it’s a bit softer and still works as a neutral.
