We wear clothes to reflect our personalities and convey moods. Because of that, I’m often caught in brightly colored pieces with classic silhouettes and interesting details. So which direction do I take when it’s time for a change of pace? There’s no better time to switch up your routine than a transition between seasons. Now that fall is in full swing, I’ve delved into the depths of the color black.
Head-to-toe black is chic, but it can be difficult to style in a visually-stimulating way. Colors and prints speak for themselves. Black, however, it its own animal. When styling black, it’s all in the fit and in the details. I’ve opted for a Diane von Furstenberg ballerina wrap top tucked into a velvet fit and flare skirt. This kind of shape…nipped at the waist and hitting right above the knee…is flattering on nearly all body types. I also love the rich textures that compliment each other. Because the outfit is all black, I can play with multiple textures without worrying about creating distractions.
Since the body of the ensemble is simple, I’ve accessorized with trendy accessories. My leopard boots act as the one pop of print, and the sculptural heel is also an unexpected twist. My chokers, bangles, and dark manicure give the otherwise-classic outfit a “cool girl” feel. By wearing chokers instead of a longer necklace or scarf, I’m keeping the long-line illusion that the head-to-toe black creates.
And of course, I’ve finished off the outfit with a versatile Furla bag. The gold metallic is a nice touch, creating extra, subtle dimension. I feel sexy and sophisticated in this fall-friendly outfit. What’s more, I can pair it with opaque tights and I’m ready for winter.
