Just in case you didn’t know, “creepers” are a trend, and like a lot of trends, they are really a new take on something that was popularized in the past. Creepers are defined as being chunky shoes with thick crepe soles and suede uppers. They were worn by soldiers in the second World War and made popular by those who wore them out to nightclubs in the 1940’s. I have been fascinated with these shoes! They have made their most notable comeback on the Fall/Winter 2015 runways with designers like Alexander Wang and Alexander McQueen. Love ’em or hate ’em, I am a huge fan of platform blocky-looking shoes, and for me, this is a nice departure from the 6 inch heels I usually wear. These particular creepers are by Stella McCartney. They are an oxford style shoe with a contrasting solid wood heel, and a chunky rubber saw-edge sole. Perfection! I paired them with skinny jeans, a maxi cardigan to visually balance them out, and a basic button down. There is something about the juxtaposition of the thick soles with skinny jeans that is oddly appealing and perfect for casual stroll around NYC.
