First up, Thanksgiving… For this wonderful holiday I am thankful for family, friends, and the perfect little black dress! When I want to accent my waistline, I opt for a fit-and-flare. It’s cinched in at the waist and flares out, hitting just above the knee, and is flattering on every body type. It’s perfect to wear alone, or layered with tights and boots. I’ve dressed it up here with black pumps and a gold lucite clutch, but it can also be dressed down for more casual family gatherings. To further accentuate the shape I’ve paired it with a wide, red belt.
The floral appliqué pattern is what makes this dress unique. Flowers are traditionally considered a spring print, but it’s the dark background that really makes this piece work for autumn and winter. Choosing colors that can be found in nature is a great way to create subtle highlights and cohesion, especially when you take photos. Crimson and gold are perfect for the holidays!
I found this quaint chapel down a winding road while I was driving in Connecticut, and was immediately drawn to the bright fire-engine-red door. The unmanicured lawn and abandoned feel of the building really set the tone for this shoot. I somehow found it charming and picturesque. I started to think about this chapel in its heyday… What were people wearing? What brought them here? A wedding? A holiday service? Or maybe just an excuse to dress up on any given Sunday…. It’s just proof that fashion inspiration can be found anywhere, at any time.
Happy Thanksgiving!
