When you think of basic outfits you usually think of several key wardrobe pieces; a white tee shirt or classic button down, denim, or maybe even a comfortable track suit. But repeat after me…..basics do NOT have to be boring. Basics are buildable pieces that create a foundation for your outfit, or if styled correctly, can create an entire outfit on their own.
For my not-so-basic-basic outfit, I paired several simple pieces together to create a fun yet chic look. I started my outfit off with a crisp white men’s button down shirt and satin pants from Aritzia. I took this look from basic to not-so-basic with a funky satin baseball cap, clear lucite clutch by Charlotte Olympia, and layered necklaces from Dylanlex. The transparent clutch added the perfect pop of color to the black and white look. Tying the white shirt created a fresh yet sophisticated silhouette, especially when paired with the necklaces.
This is one of the looks I’m wearing for New York Fashion Week. Taking a few simple pieces and adding just the right accessories takes it from basic to fashion-week-ready. The Aritzia black satin pants are fitted and flattering but still extremely comfortable, perfect for a day of running from show to show. NYFW is a time to get your best street style looks together, but even if you’re not attending any shows it’s still a special week that can inspire new life into your wardrobe. We’ll see what this week of inspiration leads to in my wardrobe, but for now, I’m back to the basics and loving it!
