Has anyone else here been bitten by the travel bug recently? A persistent feeling of wanting to jump on a plane and fly to a favorite vacation spot? I’m betting that many of you have summer trips planned already, and if you don’t, you’ve been keeping your eye on a good flight deal. The minute I book my ticket for any holiday, I’ve planned out my vacay outfits in my head or have shopping lists mentally drawn to be crossed off within the next day or two. But what about that first day of travel? That’s just as much part of your trip as any of the other days. This first day look is often an afterthought for many travelers, though it’s equally as important as the rest of your holiday attire. The trick to creating savvy travel looks is to prioritize comfort and style equally. When you hold these two elements of your outfit to equal standards, you won’t even need to change between your landing gate and the hotel bar.
Athleisure is everywhere right now, and has been a wardrobe staple for me for the past few years. While I tend to look for athleisure garments in neutral colors and basic silhouettes, I decided to splurge for something a bit different this time around. I consider a trip a special occasion and an opportunity to try things I normally wouldn’t gravitate towards in the store. These saturated tomato red joggers with a side stripe and floral pattern exude confidence and uniqueness among the traveling crowd. The silky fabric breathes and moves as I navigate from place to place, but still looks amazing and doesn’t show wrinkles (like a summer linen or seersucker would.) Pair your new statement trousers with a platform sneaker and cozy cardigan for your planes-trains-and-automobiles portion of the day, then switch to a favorite stiletto and cropped jacket once you arrive at your destination. A plain or graphic tee underneath is the perfect canvas for dressing up or down, so that’s usually my go-to for an outfit like this. This matchy Veronica Beard denim jacket is the perfect light layer, allowing me to be ready for nearly any kind of weather my destination throws at me. To match the jacket’s edgy vibe I’ve layered on a chunky androgynous necklace and opted for classic aviator sunnies. I’ve decided to keep the red palette consistent throughout the outfit and finish off this nighttime look with a rosy red pointed toe heel. Styling one color in multiple textures is a great means of elongating the body and making yourself look taller, too. The blue leather crossbody adds a small pop of contrasting color to the palette and the chain link strap gives a slight nod to my necklace of choice. This outfit makes me feel strong, confident, and excited to travel! When you’re dressing for your next trip, just remember that the clothes you choose to wear will help set the mood for your well-deserved time off.
