This first post of 2017 features a classic favorite of mine: the black pencil skirt. It’s a piece that can be worn for any occasion, any time of year, and on any body type. The styling options are endless, but you better believe that I opted for a statement blouse and contrasting patterns to make the look my own.I love to mix my functional basics with retro themed pieces in funky prints and colors. So this ’70s-inspired bell sleeve definitely matches my aesthetic. A light and flowy blouse like this one is perfect as the showstopping piece. The ruffles create nice dimension and movement that compliment the sleek construction of the streamlined skirt.
When it comes to skirts that hit around the knee, it’s easy to accidently create unflattering proportions. To avoid this problem and to elongate the leg, I’ve gone with a beautiful ostrich skin pump from Charlotte Olympia. The texture of the heel is subtle, but still acts as a supportive detail. And any leg in a stiletto looks a mile long!
The clutch from Goyard is a favorite staple of mine. I love my classic bags, and this one creates just the right contrast with the pattern of the blouse as well as with the barely-there pattern in the heel. They’re all in the same color family, so while the patterns and textures are different, the outfit still works together as a whole. An ensemble with so many staples and classics is sure to be a knockout.
